200 Hour Yoga Teacher Training Details

Congratulations on planning your 200 Hour Yoga Teacher Training!

Get ready for a beautifully transformative experience that will open your mind, advance your personal practice and begin to awaken your Truth! Below you will find a general packing list, required text books, an itinerary and curriculum. The schedule is highly adaptive and flexible and is unique for each training, as we intuitively follow the energy of what the group needs the most. Every training will fulfill and exceed the Yoga Alliance requirements and prepare you to feel comfortable teaching a group class.

Travel Planning

Schedule your flight to arrive into SJO airport by 11:00am the Sunday before training begins. Gypsea Yoga School will arrange a shared shuttle to Uvita (~$30-$50), and opening ceremony will commence upon arrival.

If you are not taking the shuttle, please plan to be at Hospedaje el Boquecito by 3:00PM the day before your course begins.

If you are arriving early or staying late and need to make additional travel plans, please contact the Uvita Information Center.

Curriculum

Our study focus is centered around the Yoga Sutras of Patanjali and Light on Yoga by BKS Iyengar. We will discuss each sutra thoroughly, breakdown common hatha, ashtanga vinyasa, yin & restorative asanas and work through sequencing and language for teaching classes. You will learn and practice many traditional pranayama and meditation techniques daily, immersed in the serenity of natural forests.

TECHNIQUES, TRAINING & PRACTICE
Learn the language used to cue common asanas and how to sequence your own classes. By the end of the course you will feel ready to begin offering classes in your own unique style.
TEACHING METHODOLOGY
Gain insight from a certified teacher with over 8 years of experience. Learn to apply methods for all ages and levels of experience to achieve the desired learning and healing for your future students.
ANATOMY & PHYSIOLOGY
Each pose covered will be broken down and dissected to identify major muscle groups and safety issues for common injuries. You will learn about how yoga brings balance to each bodily system, and how they integrate for optimal health.
YOGA PHILOSOPHY, LIFESTYLE & ETHICS
Dive into the major philosophical texts guiding modern yoga. Learn the concepts that make up the building blocks for full integration of mind, body an soul.

Where is the GypSea Yoga School campus?

How to I get to Hospedaje el Bosquecito?

For an additional cost (usually ~$30-$50), GypSea Yoga School organizes a shuttle to leave from SJO airport at 11am, and it is about a 4 hour ride. The driver will meet you outside of Malinche’s restaurant with a GypSea Yoga School sign. The restaurant is located outside and to the right after baggage claim. You are welcome to come the night before, and find a hotel near SJO, then come back to SJO for the 11am shuttle the next day.

Which books do I need?

Please bring with you (hard copy or digital copy is fine): Yoga Sutras of Patanjali translation & commentary by Sri Swami Satchidananda, Light on Yoga by BKS Iyengar, The Key Muscles of Yoga by Ray Long.

What is the daily schedule? 

Training goes from 6am-5:30pm Monday-Friday, and evenings are for study, practice, and homework. Saturdays and Sundays are off days, but there will be assigned homework, study, reflection and practice time. This is a 15 day intensive course and we must meet the required 200 hours for the Yoga Alliance 200 Hour Registered Yoga Teacher designation.

How do I pay my balance:

$500 deposit is required to hold your spot. The remaining balance can be paid one of 3 ways:

1. Cash on arrival.

What is near campus?

There are many restaurants, grocery stores, and laundry service all within walking distance, check out Trip Advisor for all the local spots. The beach is about a 40 minute walk from the hotel, and then there are rivers and waterfalls about a 2 minutes walk. There is a local farmer’s market on Saturdays from 8am-12pm.

What are the prerequisites?

The prerequisite for this course is at least 1 year of consistent, steady yoga practice.
